Expert doubts massive gang bust will dent meth trade

From Morning Report, 7:56 am on 9 June 2021

The FBI-led operation that saw the arrests of top gang members in New Zealand is tipped to put almost no dent in the high use of methamphetamine.

So far, New Zealand police have arrested 35 people, including senior members of the Comancheros, the Waikato Mongrel Mob and the Head Hunters.

Nine hundred charges have been laid and three point seven million dollars worth of assets seized.

The police work here forms part of Operation Trojan Shield - a global effort that saw criminals conned into using an messaging app secretly run by the FBI.
