It's been a "logistical nightmare" for a supermarket just a kilometre from central Ashburton - with the bridge closed yesterday it was cut off from supplies from the north.
Residents on the Tinwald side of the bridge were also cut off from every other supermarket except for the Tinwald Supervalue.
The bridge re-opened late last night to light traffic, but will be closed again from 10am until 2pm on Wednesday for load testing.
