A New Zealander who was deported from Australia under its controversial 501 policy is welcoming the news of a class action lawsuit against the Australian government.
Adrian Solomon-Maere spent 33 years in Australia before he was sent back to New Zealand for breaking an intervention order.
Before he was deported to New Zealand, he spent two years at the notorious Christmas Island detention centre.
Solomon-Maere says the lawsuit is a big moment for deportees who feel like they have been wronged by Australia.
