Samoa's political crisis worsens hours before parliament opens

A chaotic storm of last-minute legal manoeuvring and political posturing has worsened Samoa's constitutional crisis hours before the new parliament is due to be sworn in.

The Samoan parliament is set to convene this morning, and the FAST party leader Fiame Naomi Mata'afa should be sworn in as the country's first female prime minister.

But it took an extraordinary Sunday session of the country's Supreme Court court to ensure parliament would even sit.
