Study finds strong link between nitrate levels and premature births

From Morning Report, 7:09 am on 24 May 2021

New research shows a strong link between nitrates in drinking water and babies being born underweight or prematurely.

The findings are in an Otago University study released exclusively to RNZ.

They reveal much lower nitrate levels than previously thought safe, could be responsible for premature births potentially leading to cerebral palsy, eyesight or hearing loss, and psychiatric disorders.
