Single mum wants govt to step up affordable housing plans

The government has made lifting thousands more children out of poverty a key priority, but solo mums on the benefit say they're struggling to make ends meet each week - and want to see more help in this week's budget.

Ngakorowai has six children and is in transitional housing at Auckland's Te Puea Marae - she says the government needs to step up its plans to build more affordable housing and help people like her who are weighed down with debt to Work and Income.

She spoke to social issues reporter Sarah Robson.
