Gaza media buildings destroyed by Israeli air strike

The United Nations Secretary General has pleaded for an immediate end to escalating violence between Israel and Hamas. Antonio Guteres said the only way to resolve the crisis was through dialogue leading to a lasting settlement. A virtual UN Security Council meeting is underway as international diplomatic efforts work towards a cease fire. On Sunday morning an Israeli air strike levelled a 13-storey building hosting a number of media offices, including the Gaza bureaus of Al Jazeera television and the Associated Press. Occupants were given an hour to evacuate before the building was destroyed. AFP Jerusalem reporter Daniella Cheslow spoke to Philippa Tolley.
