Covid-19 vaccination centres pause walk-ins

From Morning Report, 6:16 am on 13 May 2021

Two Auckland Covid-19 vaccination centres are pausing walk-ins from today due to high demand.

The sites at Mount Wellington and Highbrook have experienced heavy demand for walk-in vaccinations since they began trailing the model from last week.

Northern Region Health Coordination Centre Vaccination Programme Lead, Matt Hannant, told reporter Chen Liu that the centres are reaching capacity and there are increasing concerns about traffic flow and long queues.

He says it will assess what changes need to be made before walk-ins can be allowed again.

He is also joining Health Minister Andrew Little in asking people who're not yet eligible for the vaccine to wait their turn.
