Mixed feelings on government overseas workers announcement

From Morning Report, 8:43 am on 11 May 2021

There has been a lukewarm response to the government's plans to fill empty rooms in MIQ with skilled and critical workers from overseas.

While some industries are set to benefit from the rooms freed up by the Trans-Tasman bubble - like fruit-pickers, construction workers and international students, others, like dairy farmers, feel they have been left out with no spaces made available for essential dairy workers.

Federated Farmers employment and immigration spokesperson Chris Lewis and New Zealand Apples and Pears chief executive Alan Pollard spoke to Guyon Espiner.
