Climate group ready to go to court over Auckland Council plan

From Morning Report, 8:38 am on 5 May 2021

Lawyers demanding action on climate change claim Auckland Council's draft transport plan is unlawful because it contradicts the council's own plan to reduce climate emissions.

The regional land transport plan sets out ways of tackling the region's major challenges over the next decade.

But the umbrella group All Aboard Aotearoa says, as it stands, the plan would see transport emissions increase by 2030. The group is prepared to contest the matter in court unless the Council radically overhauls the plan.

Lawyers For Climate Action member Jenny Cooper QC and Generation Zero campaigner and lawyer Dewy Sacayan spoke to Corin Dann.
