MFAT apologises to Indian government over tweet asking for oxygen tanks

From Morning Report, 8:18 am on 3 May 2021

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade has apologised to the Indian Government over a social media post asking for an oxygen cylinder.

The High Commission based in New Delhi sent out a now deleted tweet asking the Indian Youth Congress - the youth wing of the opposition party - for urgent assistance sourcing an oxygen cylinder.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in New Zealand later apologised, saying the tweet was issued in error.

They said they were sorry for any misunderstanding but added that the safety, health and welfare of their staff in India was a priority.
