New research, published in the Medical Journal, has found a decline in the numbers of parents smacking their children.
Researchers followed a group of more than a 1000 parents over a 15-year period, between 2002 and 2017.
The University of Otago researchers found minor assaults against children reduced by almost half. Severe assaults also decreased by two-thirds.
Beth Wood was one of the leading forces behind 2007's anti-smacking legislation.
