The police say their current gun amnesty and shorter buy-back period has been going exactly to plan.
The smaller, targeted amnesty and buy-back came after further firearms law reforms in the wake of the March 15 terror attacks, which saw wholesale changes to gun legislation and the large scale buy-back operation in 2020.
Deputy Commissioner Jevon McSkimming told police reporter Ben Strang this year's buyback had more specific targets than the military-style semi automatic firearms seized last year.
The amnesty period for handing in firearms runs until August, but the buy-back ends tomorrow.
