Silver Lake NZ-Rugby deal could be a 'no-brainer' - Ex Black Fern

From Morning Report, 8:10 am on 29 April 2021

The proposed $387 million investment in New Zealand Rugby by American equity giant Silver Lake deal will be voted on today at New Zealand Rugby's annual general meeting.

It hasn't yet been approved by the Rugby Players Association - which is in mediation with the Union to resolve their differences.

The Chair of the Rugby Union Brent Impley has declined to be interviewed on Morning Report ahead of the decision.

Speaking to Morning Report alongside former New Zealand Rugby CEO David Moffett, former Black Fern Louisa Wall said certain benefits could make the deal worthwhile.

"I've been listening to quite a few of the provincial unions, and they need the investment, so if this provides an injection of cash for that infrastructure and then some ongoing revenue stream then from my perspective it's a no-brainer."
