Māori, Pacific experts excluded from science advisory - report

From Morning Report, 8:40 am on 28 April 2021

A new report by leading Māori researchers says Māori and Pacific experts are being excluded from science advisory and other key decision-making roles.

This has been particularly evident during the pandemic.

It calls for a bolder science-policy approach that leverages the unique strengths of Te Tiritio Waitangi and Mātauranga Māori to achieve better outcomes for Māori.

Co-author of the report, Professor Tahu Kukutai says science policy in New Zealand is too Wellington-centric, Euro-centric and top down in its approach.

She spoke to Corin Dann.
