The dragon, the taniwha - and the kangaroo?
In a speech earlier this week Foreign Minister Nanaia Mahuta used the metaphor of the dragon and the taniwha to describe the China New Zealand relationship.
China was very much the dragon in the room when she took the podium alongside Australia's Marise Payne, who winged her way over to Wellington just days after the opening of the trans Tasman bubble.
While New Zealand and Australia are long time friends and allies, and both part of Five Eyes, they're not always on the same page when it comes to China.
