Jacinda Ardern urges globe to follow NZ on climate initiatives.

From Morning Report, 6:38 am on 23 April 2021

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern joined President Biden at the virtual Leaders' Summit on Climate hosted by the United States overnight.

The summit, held for Earth Day, brought world leaders together to galvanise efforts to reduce emissions and limiting global warming to one point five degrees above pre-industrial levels.

In an effort to re-assert global leadership on the issue of climate change, United States president Joe Biden made a bold pledge.

His administration has promised to slash US greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2030, a target it hopes will spur other big emitter countries to raise their ambitions.

New Zealand was asked to participate in the climate finance session of the Summit.

The Prime Minister called on others to follow New Zealand's lead in its approach to climate change.
