Outrage over European football breakaway league plans

From Morning Report, 8:39 am on 20 April 2021

There is an uproar in European football following the announcement that twelve elite clubs plan to form a breakaway European Super League.

The clubs - labelled by some the Dirty Dozen - unveiled plans for their involvement in the lucrative competition, while continuing to compete in their respective national leagues.

Condemnation of the announcement has been close to unanimous - from politicians, to football administrators, to former and current players.

Former Manchester United and England defender Gary Neville said the move pointed to "pure greed".

UK Daily Mail football writer Matt Barlow spoke to Corin Dann.
