Hamilton City Council u-turns over Māori wards

From Morning Report, 8:45 am on 16 April 2021

The Hamilton City Council has done a u-turn over Māori wards.

Two weeks ago it decided to strengthen Māori representation on council committees but to defer a decison on Māori wards until after the next council term which ends in 2025.

Yesterday evening it voted to overturn the earlier decison and will now consider the wards for the next election, but only after a three-week period of public consultation.
