The long-awaited inclusion of Pacific Island teams in Super Rugby is closer to reality after Moana Pasifika and Fijian Drua were granted conditional licences to compete next year.
New Zealand Rugby says if both entities can present a sustainable business case by late June, it should lead to their involvement in a 12-team competition - also comprising five teams each from Australia and New Zealand.
Moana Pasifika is a combined Samoa and Tonga side and is likely to be based in South Auckland, while the Fijian team will be based in Suva.
RNZ Pacific sports journalist Vinnie Wylie spoke to Corin Dann.
