Skypath supporters frustrated with more delays

From Morning Report, 7:47 am on 26 March 2021

Supporters of the derailed Auckland Bridge Skypath are sceptical about reported plans for a second harbour bridge.

It's believed the Skypath plan - to build a cycling and pedestrian lane onto the existing bridge - won't go ahead, because of fundamental technical issues.

Waka Kotahi Transport Agency is now reportedly considering building a second bridge across Auckland harbour for buses and bikes.

The agency is not commenting, but RNZ understands its board members have been meeting this week to discuss the next steps.

It's all adding to the frustrations of people who have been calling for a safe space for walkers and cyclists for years, but have only faced delays and disappointment.

One of those is Christine Rose, the chair of the group "Movement", formerly known as the SkyPath Trust until they gave away their name and brand to NZTA.

She spoke to Corin Dann.
