Eleven people who were being investigated by the Maltese journalist, Daphne Caruana Galizia, before her murder in 2017, have appeared in court in Valletta.

Among those charged with money laundering, corruption and fraud is Keith Schembri, a senior aide to former Maltese prime minister Joseph Muscat.

A year before she was assassinated, Caruana Galizia told RNZ that Schembri had set up trusts in New Zealand as part of an international tax evasion exercise.

Malta Times editor Herman Grech spoke to Corin Dann.
