NZ companies sign letter asking for Modern Slavery Act

The government is being urged to act against modern slavery, with 85 businesses and organisations signing a letter asking for a Modern Slavery Act to be considered.

The letter was signed by companies such Kathmandu, Macpac, Bunnings, Noel Leeming, Countdown and the Warehouse.

It says there is no legislation that looks at the transparency of supply chains and New Zealand companies could unknowingly be importing products or services using the the labour of exploited or enslaved people.

Tania Benyon is the Chief Product Officer for the Warehouse - one of the signatories.

She spoke to Corin Dann.
