After more than 180 years resting in the shallows of Whitianga harbour, The HMS Buffalo shipwreck is about to brought to life again.
This weekend a team of divers and archeologists will descend on the remains of the ship, which sank in 1840.
Using photographs, a 3D picture will be created to understand how the historic ship was constructed.
Kurt Bennett is the Maritime Archaeologist leading the project.
He spoke to Susie Ferguson.
