Environment Minister David Parker 'incredibly frustrated' with Tiwai Point smelter

From Morning Report, 7:39 am on 23 February 2021

The Environment minister has slammed what he calls an "uncooperative" Tiwai Point aluminium smelter over the state of a stockpile of waste.

David Parker told Morning Report he is "incredibly frustrated" at the smelter over the issue, broken by RNZ on Monday.

It was revealed that the aluminium smelter at Bluff has stockpiled more than 100,000 tonnes of cyanide-laced hazardous waste less than 100 metres from a fast-eroding Southland beach.

Parker says he is frustrated at what he called irresponsible corporates failing to clean up mess.
