Search and rescue teams are urgently seeking any information that could help them locate a missing yacht off the east coast of Coromandel.
A garbled mayday about a sinking yacht came through around half-past six last night... but it was so unclear searchers aren't even sure they're in the right area, or even the name of the vessel.
The vessel's coordinates were given as near Waiheke, but verbally the yacht's location was given as 'east of Coromandel'.
HMNZS Te kaha has been searching the area overnight.
Search and Rescue officer Tracy Brickles says at the moment, they're not confident they will find the vessel, and anyone who knows anything about the yacht must contact the police.
