Islamic Women's Council on NZ citizen detained in Turkey

From Morning Report, 6:08 am on 17 February 2021

The Islamic Women's Council of New Zealand says Australia must take responsibility for the woman described by the Turkish government as an Islamic State terrorist.

The 26-year-old, who had dual New Zealand and Australian citizenship, was detained trying to cross illegally into Turkey from Syria with her two children.

Suhayra Aden left for Australia when she was six and travelled to Syria from Australia on an Australian passport.

However, Australia has since stripped the woman of citizenship. Anjum Rahman from the Islamic Women's Council of New Zealand spoke to Susie Ferguson.
