Democrats outline case against Donald Trump in second impeachment trial

Democrats have begun outlining their case as the impeachment trial of Donald Trump formally got under way in Washington DC this morning.

As expected, the senate divided largely along party lines yesterday, but six Republicans broke ranks and voted that the trial was constitutional.

That is still short of the number required to convict the former US president of inciting the 6 January riot at the Capitol Building.
