After years of controversy, speaking for rights for women political leaders on marae may change at Waitangi next year.
Allowance for Jacinda Ardern to deliver a speech from the mahau, or porch, was made for her first appearance at Waitangi in 2018.
Other women leaders haven't been given the same treatment.
Now National says it's received a commitment from Ngāpuhi all women leaders will be able to speak during the powhiri next year.
