Cancer Society not surprised by report findings Māori more likely to die of cancer

From Morning Report, 8:37 am on 2 February 2021

The Cancer Society says it isn't surprising Māori are more than twice as likely to die of cancer than other New Zealanders.

That is one of the findings of a report from the Cancer Control Agency, which also identifies other areas where New Zealand lags behind other wealthy countries.

The Cancer Society says the report fails to identify a path to improving the situation.

Chris Jackson is the Cancer Society's chief medical officer.
