Superyacht berths almost fully booked for Cup - but by NZers

From Morning Report, 6:53 am on 26 January 2021

Superyacht berths at two Auckland marinas are almost fully booked for the Amercia's Cup.

Only four of the 77 berths remain available and of those occupied, most are New Zealand vessels.

Economic agency Auckland Unlimited's general manager of destination, Steve Armitage, says only a third of the 73 occupied berths are housing foreign vessels.

Off the water, spectators have shown strong support for the regatta.

Armitage told RNZ America's Cup reporter Amy Williams the Cup events have so far attracted 150,000 people to the waterfront on race days.

He says they are keeping tallies of the number of visitors to the Cup Village in the Viaduct on each race day.
