Mysterious illness kills dozens of hoiho

A mysterious illness has left dozens of yellow-eyed penguin chicks dead.

The small population of hoiho in the South Island is already under intense pressure and wildlife experts say this new disease isn't aiding in their survival.

Lisa Argilla is a wildlife veterinarian and founder of the Dunedin Wildlife Hospital. She speaks to Te Aniwa Hurihanganui.
