International leaders react to Washington riot

From Morning Report, 8:24 am on 8 January 2021

There has been international condemnation over the events at Capitol Hill including from New Zealand politicians.

In a statement, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said democracy is the right of people to exercise a vote, have their voice heard and then have that decision upheld peacefully which should never be undone by a mob.

National Leader, Judith Collins, said what we are seeing in the US is a disgraceful attack on democracy - she says the National Party supports the peaceful and orderly transition of power.

Otago University Professor of International Relations, Robert Patman, spoke to Te Aniwa Hurihanganui.
