Researcher says health system affecting patients decisions on whether to get mastectomies

The health system is robbing women of the right to make the best decisions about breast cancer including if they should have a masectomy or not.

That's according to a doctorate researcher who says informed consent in hospitals is, as things stand, "an illusion".

Mary Sylvester has been studying breast cancer treatment in Taranaki for three years with AUT, and is chair of Breast Cancer Support 

She speaks to Māni Dunlop.
