Northland Fire and Emergency considering ban on open air fires

From Morning Report, 6:48 am on 17 December 2020

Northland Fire and Emergency is considering completely banning open air fires to prevent out of control blazes this summer.

Last year the region suffered a drought which lead to firefighters battling more than 300 blazes during the holiday period.

Fire and Emergency say although conditions aren't expected to be as bad, it is still a major concern as the Far North District dries out.

Eleisha Foon spoke to Northland Principal Rural Fire Officer Myles Taylor about the risk and whether Northland would be following Christchurch's lead to ban fireworks.
