Air crash investigators are due to arrive in Kēkerengū this morning, the site of yesterday's fatal helicopter crash, just north of Kaikōura.
Three children are the sole survivors of the crash that killed the pilot and a woman, who is believed to be the children's mother.
Two of the children pulled from the crash were last night stable, while a third was in a serious condition in intensive care. All are in Wellington Hospital.
An eyewitness told RNZ the chopper was coming in to land at the mouth of the Kekerengu River, when it spun out of control and crashed to the ground.
