Wednesday marks one year since the eruption at Whakaari White Island which led to the deaths of 22 tourists and tour guides.
The island erupted at 2.11pm.
In the frantic moments that followed the blast, tour boats returned to shore, their guides helping get people off, and other tourists providing first aid.
