Integrated schools take govt to court over property funding

From Morning Report, 8:43 am on 4 December 2020

Integrated schools are taking the government to court over its refusal to give them millions of dollars of extra property funding.

They say the government should have included them when it announced at the end of last year it was giving state schools a $400 million boost to use on their buildings.

The schools are privately owned, often by the Catholic or Anglican churches, but the government pays their running costs like a regular state school.

Paul Ferris from the Association of Proprietors of Integrated Schools told RNZ education correspondent John Gerritsen integrated schools are part of the state network and deserve the same treatment.
