Deal promises pathway for eventual return of foreign students

From Morning Report, 8:19 am on 3 December 2020

The government is hoping a deal with a British company will help revive the $5 billion foreign student industry when the borders reopen.

It has announced New Zealand's eight universities will recognise pre-university and first-year courses offered by NCUK at its study centres in more than thirty countries.

NCUK is owned by a group of UK universities and provides a pipeline of foreign students for its members.

The Education Minister, Chris Hipkins, told RNZ education correspondent, John Gerritsen, the idea is students will start studying now for qualifications that will give them entry to a New Zealand university in another year or so.
