Academics and teachers are warning that a new mandatory NCEA literacy and numeracy test could be too tough for some pupils.
The Education Ministry has unveiled draft versions of standards that secondary school students will have to pass to get any level of NCEA from 2023.
They are being introduced after a study found 40 percent of teens with NCEA Level 2 cannot read, write or do maths well enough to pass a test of basic adult literacy and numeracy.
