Two senior Cabinet ministers are in a public scrap over the leadership at the beleaguered Oranga Tamariki.
The dispute was triggered by Whanau Ora Minister Peeni Henare weighing in on the future of the agency's chief executive Grainne Moss, who reports to Children's Minister Kelvin Davis.
The Māori Party has jumped in too, with co-leader Debbie Ngarewa-Packer saying the conflict isn't surprising but is distracting from the real issue.
