From Morning Report, 6:38 am on 18 November 2020

A man has been arrested in relation to the alleged attempted shooting of a police officer yesterday morning in Whangarei.

Northland police arrested the 24-year-old man at an address in the city without incident.

He will appear in the district court today on a number of charges including firearm offences.

Officers will no longer carry firearms in the area.

Former gang member, Martin Kaipo, is now chief executive and co-founder of community organisation Otangarei Trust.

Kaipo told Chen Liu he doesn't know anything about this specific incident but it fits in with the normal gang behaviour.
