Covid-19: Chris Hipkins 'hopeful' lockdown could be avoided

From Morning Report, 7:18 am on 13 November 2020

The Minister of Covid-19 Response Chris Hipkins says he's yet to be notified of any more cases of Covid-19 overnight after a mystery case popped up yesterday.

A woman in her 20s was revealed to have tested positive for the virus yesterday, she has no connection with the border or managed isolation.

Hipkins said it's early days yet but the authorities are working hard to understand what has happened he is hopeful a lockdown can be avoided.

"Things are things are looking good for being able to assemble a fairly good picture of this case," he told Morning Report.

Genomic sequencing is expected later today, Hipkins says early indications are it is linked to the NZDF cluster.

"If the genome sequencing confirms the virus that we're dealing with use the same lineage as the Defence Force workers that we're dealing with at the moment, it's a very big piece in the puzzle that helps."
