Solicitor General accused of breaching guidelines

From Morning Report, 7:21 am on 11 November 2020

The government's top legal adviser is accused of breaching guidelines by giving two men immunity from prosecution for rape and murder.

The men's evidence led to the conviction of Gail Maney for the murder of West Auckland tyre-fitter Deane Fuller-Sandys.

The Solicitor General has now come under fire from AUT law professor Kris Gledhill who says the case needs to go to retrial or to the newly created Criminal Cases Review Commission.

Maney has spent the last two weeks back in prison - the fourth time she has been recalled for breaching her parole conditions.

Investigative Journalist Guyon Espiner has the story.
