It means that President Donald Trump will be denied a second term in office - the first time that a sitting president has failed in a bid for re-election since George Bush Senior lost to Bill Clinton in 1992.
Biden addressed supporters in a speech on Sunday, and emphasised his intention to find political consensus during his term.
