Calls to recycle waste from managed isolation hotels

From Morning Report, 6:50 am on 15 October 2020

A recent guest in managed isolation is calling on the government to start recycling waste from the country's border hotels. To reduce the handling of waste or dishes and the potential spread of Covid-19, meals are served in takeaway containers, sealed in rubbish bags by guests, and then all treated as general waste. That means disposable containers from up to 2.5 million managed isolation meals have gone straight to landfill, since the facilities were set up in March. Luke Ross - who arrived from the UK last month and stayed in the Rydges in Auckland - told RNZ reporter Katie Todd that's unacceptable.
