A series of job expos, compared to "speed dating", has resulted in employment for hundreds of people in the Otago region.

The third and final "Jobbortunity" event was held in Queenstown over the weekend, where the unemployed were put in front of a host of mostly agricultural businesses desperate for workers.

Balclutha and Dunedin recently staged similar events.

More than 8000 jobs were on offer in total and about 10 per cent of the roles have been filled.

Clutha District mayor Bryan Cadogan speaks to Corin Dann.
