Government redirects foreign teacher funding

From Morning Report, 7:52 am on 13 October 2020

The government is redirecting millions of dollars from attracting foreign teachers and using it instead to pay for more New Zealanders to train as teachers.

It is doubling to 540 the number of places in courses for people returning to teaching, and will fund a new school-based secondary teacher education programme next year.

The Education Minister, Chris Hipkins, told RNZ's education correspondent, John Gerritsen, he was not expecting foreign teachers across the border any time soon.
