Federated Farmers is blaming the Department of Conservation for bad land management which led to the huge fires in Lake Ōhau.
At least 20 homes have been destroyed in the township, and the High Country committee chairman is warning of worst to come over the summer.
Rob Stokes says the land is being mismanaged and neglected, which is causing the fires - he wants to see more grazing on DOC-managed land.
He told reporter Harry Lock, they've been raising concerns with the Department of Conservation for years, but aren't getting listened to.
