From Morning Report, 7:44 am on 5 October 2020

Air and ground crews continue to fight a huge wildfire in Canterbury's Mackenzie Country.

The fire service says more than 1600 hectares have been burnt.

Four crews have spent the night trying to keep containment lines in place and protecting houses and other buildings.

At least 90 people have spent the night in makeshift accommodation after at least 20 homes were damaged or destroyed.

Last night a further six properties north of Lake Ohau Village were evacuated by Police as a precaution.
